Zinnias are a symbol of endurance, they are also one of the longest blooming flowers. The flower was named after the botanist Dr Johann Gottfried Zinn. This year I got my zinnias as very young plants from The Farm at Oxford. They were not the brightly colored variety that you normally expect from this flower. The colors were muted greens, peachy oranges, and yellows. But they had a gorgeous red center.
They are a strong, drought tolerant sun loving flower that is originally from southwestern United States, Mexico and Central America. Thoughts of friends or thoughts of a missing friend are the most common meanings for the zinnia.
